Pine Brook Luminaries
Two years ago, some residents started what hopefully will become a neighborhood wide event in Pine Brook: luminaries on December 24th. This is a voluntary event that all residents may participate in to celebrate the holidays.

Starting at 5pm on December 24th, please put luminaries on the curb in front of your house. One every five feet seems to work pretty well. You can use white paper bags, brown paper bags, glass jars….whatever you like. You may use candles, flashlights or electric lights. Use sand or small stones to weigh the bags down. (If you use candles, please make sure you keep an eye on them. A fire could ruin the event for your household.)

If you need some help in organizing you luminaries, David Fish (405 Lamp Post) will have some bags and sand outside his garage. You’ll have to supply your own candles.

As this event grows, imagine how pretty the neighborhood will look with each street lined with lights.

No mater what your faith is, please consider joining in this neighborhood light show.

Giant Project A+
Giant Foods is once again offering its Project A+ program. When you sign up using your Bonus Card, 1% of your total purchase will go to the school of your choice. This costs you nothing and does not affect any other deals such as the gas discounts. Please sign up at any Giant store or by going to www.giantaplus.com

Even if you don’t have kids in school, you can still participate. Simply pick a local school from the list on the website. Again, this costs you nothing. It comes out of Giant’s profits. If you don’t sign up, they keep it.

Babysitters Wanted
One of the biggest needs that the parents of young children in Pine Brook have all year is for qualified babysitters. With all the holiday parties coming up this month, the need is even greater.

The Pine Brook News has offered FREE advertising for all youngsters living in our neighborhood who are babysitters. (Pet sitters are needed too.) So far, nobody has come forward to take advantage of this FREE offer.

The parents of Pine Brook are begging for a list of sitters to call. If you (or your parents) contact pbcamail@yahoo.com or call 737-6635, you will be on that list…..maybe even the only name on the list.

Think of all the money that is just waiting to come your way.

Water Pressure
Just a reminder to have the water pre ssure in your home checked if you have not done so yet. Since the water company raised the pressure, many residents have had problems.

If your water pressure is above 100 psi, you should install a pressure regulator valve. It’s not just the pipes you need to worry about, but also your water heater, washing machine hoses, hoses inside your dishwasher, toilet valves and much more.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cleanup and dealing with insurance companies.

Driving In Pine Brook
Please remember that there are more and more children in Pine Brook every year. As they go running or riding their bikes through the neighborhood, they may not be paying complete attention to the cars coming down the road.

Please obey all speed limits and stop signs while you are driving through Pine Brook.

Yes, this means YOU!!

Gift Card Warning
It seemed like a good idea at the time. You bought a gift card from your favorite store to give as present to that certain picky person on your list. But, right after the holidays, the chain went bankrupt or the store in our area was closed. Now that rectangular piece of plastic is a very expensive drink coaster.

Due to the economy, many retailers are either going out of business or are closing stores in certain areas. However, some of them are still selling gift cards to customers!! If the company declares bankruptcy, the gift card is almost certainly useless. If the company closes stores in your area, you may have to travel to another city to use the card.

And just because a store is doing well right now, things could change quickly. Keep that in mind when doing your shopping this year.
