PBCA Board meeting January 20, 2014

In attendance Jacquie Hensel, David Fish, Ann Ulp, Vanessa Chornak, Lee Morrison, Don Fry, Yvonne Abela, Ramon Marin

Meeting started 7:00 p.m.

Ramon gave a treasurer report.  In 2013, the dues collected were within expectations.  The budgeted amounts for expenses were, for the most part, very close to actual costs.

Overall, the board spent 74% of budgeted amounts with the surplus going to replenish the rainy day fund.

The board expects to budget the same dollar amounts for each budgeted items in 2014 as were budgeted in 2013 with some modifications based on 2013 costs.  There may be additional expenses for sidewalk repair at Pavilion Park and Front Park.  Lee suggested using asphalt or other permeable material to repair the sidewalks rather than replacing the concrete around trees.

Discussion of sending a donation to the Hampden Township fire department for doing a very necessary job and as a way to thank the fire department for Santa’s annual visit to Pavilion Park as part of Operation Ho-Ho.  The association will make a donation of $150 – which matches the donation the PBCA made in 2013.

Discussion of one of the electrical plugs at Front Park that is not working – the breaker keeps popping.  Chaz will be asked to take a look at it and fix the problem.

Vanessa provided a list of ideas for future PBCA events.  These included:

  • Art in the Park – part art show, part painting.
  • Movie Night in the Park
  • Stories in the park – kids come to the park and someone reads a story.  Snacks.
  • Bake Sale, art, craft sale.  Maybe charge a small fee for tables.
  • Lunch/playtime at the park – weekly event for stay at home parents.
  • Santa’s Helpers – older kids could offer to help wrap gifts at Pavilion Park.  Maybe a night at the park for this
  • Book Club/recipe swap – kids or adults
  • Gingerbread making night
  • Acoustic night – dinner and play music at park.
  • Kids Camp – craft night at park. Treasure hunt in neighborhood…..make maps and find hidden goodies in the neighborhood.

Years ago the neighborhood had a monthly Bunco night.  Is there any interest in starting this up again?
